RELATION OF FRANCE DURING THE MINORITY OF LOUIS XIV; 1647. Italian. Copy. Relazione of the court of France during the regency of the Queen Mother Anna of Austria. The anonymous author describes the state and court offices and provides names and a brief family history of present officers and their immediate predecessors. Inc. (f. 2) 'La Prima persona di questo Stato è il Re Luigi XIVo Re di Francia e di Navarra Prencipe d'età di nove anni', expl. (f. 168v) 'Limoge, Bourges, Dijon, Cialon, e Reins'. Title by a later hand (f. 1) 'Descrizione della corte di Francia nella minorità di Luigi XIV'. The text is dated 1647 on f. 32v. Armorial bookplate of the Hon. Frederick North, later 5th Earl of Guilford, with shelfmark 'L/20/E' (front pastedown). '119' in pencil in top left corner of front pastedown. Purchased, together with Add. 8718, 8720, 8728, 8729, 8752, 8756, 8757, 8758, 8759, and 8760, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 119 (part).

Paper; ff. 168+ii. 254 x 182mm. Horizontal catchwords on each leaf. One Italian hand. Early 19th-cent. quarter binding of dark blue leather with gilt-tooled spine and covers of marble paper over pasteboards.
