REPORTS ON THE FINANCES OF FRANCE, with a list of its Naval Forces; 1741-1742, 1744, 1749. French. Copy. Detailed accounts of royal revenues and expenses in France for the years 1741-1743 at the time of the contrôleur général de Finances Philibert Orry (1730-1745). Preceded by a list of French Naval Forces in 1723-1749 under the minister of Marine Jean Frédéric Phelippeaux, Comte de Maurepas. Stamp of the Colonna library 'Libraria Colonna' in red on ff. ii, 2, 162, iv verso; for the Colonna library stamp see Bragaglia, vol. iii, T 32: c. 1750. Old shelfmark in dark brown in ink '191' in the lower spine. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '119' in pencil in top right corner of f. i. Purchased, together with Add. 8718, 8720, 8728, 8729, 8745, 8752, 8756, 8757, 8758, and 8760, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 119 (part). Contents as follows:

1. ff. 1-4v. 'Liste generale des vaisseaux de guerre, Fregattes, Fluttes, qui composent la Marine', list of French Naval Force, providing ships' names and number of canons; 1723-1750.

2. ff. 4v-11v. 'Ètat general des revenus du Roi et des sommes qui seront payèes au Tresor Royal en l'annèe 1749'; 1749.

3. ff. 11v-135v. 'Etats generaux des rèvenus et des depenses du Roi des annèes 1741 et 1742'; 1741-1742. Inc. (f. 14v) 'Etat des revenus du Roi de l'annèe 1741. Revenus ordinaires. Article premier. Domaines et Bois'; inc. (f. 48v) ' Etat detaillè des revenus du Roi de l'annèe 1742'. Including a table of contents (ff. 12-13) and an Avertissement (ff. 13-14).

4. ff. 136-267v. 'Memories contenant l'etat des dettes du Roi au premier janvier 1744 / L'etat des charges et offices au premier janvier 1744 / Et l'etat particuliere des affaires de la ville de Paris au premier janvier 1744'; 1 Jan. 1744. Including a table of contents (ff. 136-136v) and a Discours Preliminare (ff. 137v-155) providing an overview of public debts in France since 1670s.
