TREATISE ON PHYSICS; 18th cent. Latin. Copy. An anonymous treatise on physics preceded by an introduction on the Geometric Terminology used in the treatise. Title (f. 12) 'Physica / Quid sit Physica, quid eius obiectum, qui finis, quae partes', inc. 'Physica est scientia rerum naturalium', expl. (f. 271v) 'in aperto positam, paratissimamque'. The introduction is entitled (f. 1) 'De Geometricis quibusdam terminis quorum precipue erit usus in Physica', inc. 'Geometricos quosdam terminos explicare hoc loco decrevi', expl. (f. 11v) 'Similiter ... spheras ipsas experiment'. The treatise is divided into three parts (ff. 12, 46v, 349), each respectively subdivided into twenty, sixty-two, and twenty-five chapters; the introduction is divided into seven chapters. All chapters are listed in a detailed table of contents (ff. 272-275v). With marginal illustrations in ink. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '290/18' in pencil in top left corner of f. i. Purchased, together with Add. 8688, from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, lot 290 (18th item).
Paper; ff. 275+i. Old pagination in ink 'I-XXII' (ff. 1-11v) and '1-520' (ff. 12-271v). 318 x 220mm. Horizontal catchwords on each leaf. One Italian hand. Guilford binding of quarter vellum with marble paper covers over pasteboards.
