INDEX TO RERUM IUDICATARUM LIBRI BY ANNE ROBERT; early 17th-cent. Latin. Table of contents for the four books of the Rerum iudicatarum by Anne Robert of Orléans (1559- circa 1618), eminent French jurist and lawyer for the town of Orléans in the Parliament of Paris. Robert's work was an extensive account of decrees and acts by the Parliament and the Grand Conseil of Paris. It was first published with the title Annaei Roberti Rerum iudicatarum libri IV (Paris: Jametio Mettayer & Pierre L'Huillier, 1597). Other three editions followed, respectively: - (a) Frankfurt: Collegio Paltheniano, 1599; - (b) Cologne: Antonium Hierat, 1599; - (c) Geneva: Crispinum, 1620; cf. L. Moréri, Le grand dictionnaire historique, t. vi (Basel: 1750), p. 124; C. Brainne, Les Hommes illustres de l'Orléannais, v. 2 (Orléans: 1852), pp. 74-75. The present MS. is entitled 'Index rerum et verborum in quatuor libros Rerum iudicatarum Annaei Roberti', inc. (f. 1) 'Abbasie ut sint in monachos hierarchice cure lib. 1. cap. 7', expl. (f. 47v) 'Zeno imperator ut confiscationibus addicens lib. 1. cap. 12. fol. 80.6'. Owned by Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, but lacking his armorial bookplate. '540' in pencil in top left corner of f. 1. Purchased from R. H. Evans, 8 Dec. 1830, possibly lot 544 (part), together with Add. 8674, 8719 and 8786.
Paper; ff. 47. 243 x 168mm. Horizontal catchwords on each page. Guilford binding of quarter vellum with decorated paper covers over pasteboards. Marbled edges.
