Unfoliated: Letter of King Charles I to the Lords and Gentlemen, Committee of the Scots Parliament and the Officers of the Scottish Army, Carisbrooke, 31 Jul 1648. In the King's hand and with his signature. With seals. The letter replies to the letter of 8 Jul 1648 (the day the Scottish Army invaded England) and the Scottish Declaration, both of which he received on Friday 28 July. The Declaration is A declaration of the Committee of Estates of the Parliament of Scotland to the honourable Houses of Parliament, and to all their brethren of England, concerning the necessity, grounds, and ends of their engagement, and of the return of the Scots armie into England (Edinburgh: Evan Tyler, 1648) (ESTC: R34038; Wing [2nd ed.], S1208).
