Comprehensive guide to medicine by al-Muwaffiq Shams al-Riyāsah abū al-‘Ashā’ir Hibat Allāh ibn Zayn (الموفق شمس الرياسة أبو العشائر هبة الله بن زين; d. 1198) known as Ibn Jumay‘ (ابن جميع), personal physician to the sultan of Egypt and Syria Saladin (صلاح الدين الأيوبي; d. 1193).
The work is divided into four books (مقالات):
- Book One: On the General Principals of the Science of Medicine (المقالة الأولى في القوانين الكلية من صناعة الطبّ; ff. 1v-34r);
- Book Two: On Simple Drugs and Foods (المقالة الثانية في الأدوية المفردة والأغذية ; ff. 34v-65r);
- Book Three: On the Preservation of Health and the Treatment of Diseases (المقالة الثالثة في حفظ الصحة ومداواة الأمراض; ff. 65v-135r);
- Book Four: On Compund Drugs and Foods (المقالة الرابعة فيالأدوية المركبة والأغذية; ff. 135v-179r).
The treatise was copied on 8 Rajab 951/25 September 1544 by Muḥammad ibn al-Shaykh Muḥammad, known as Ibn al-Kattā (محمد بن الشيخ محمد الشهير بابن الكتا), who produced the copy for his own use (see colophon, f. 179r, lines 19-23, transcribed below).
Begins (f. 1v, lines 1-3):
... و ما توفيقي إلا بالله عليه توكلت
إنّه لما كان المجلس السامي الأجل المولوي القاضي الفاضلي حرس الله فضيلة المحاسن بساحته
وادرّ موارد الجود من أنامله وراحته ...
Ends (f. 179r, lines 10-12):
... قوطولي من الزيت تسع أواقي
و من الشراب عشر أواقي الملعقة ملعقتان ملعقة العسل وهي أربعة مثاقيل وملعقة الأدوية
هي مثقال واحد الغرما ربع درهم والله سبحانه أعلم وحستنا الله ونعم الوكيل نعم المولي ونعم النعيم (؟)

Ink: Black ink, with rubricated headings and overlinings in red
Binding: Red leather with blind-tolled medallion, corner-peices, and border
Condition: Excellent; very minor staining; repaired tears on ff. 178 and 179 do not affect text; repairs to lower margin on ff. 1-10
Marginalia: Occasional corrections and annotations, mostly by hand of scribe, but one in English reads 'not defective' (f. 160r, upper margin)
