ANGLICAN SERVICE MUSIC: 'Sacred Music Collected by H. T. Ellicombe', including most notably two works by Robert Lucas Pearsall, a Burial Service in E minor (1829-1830) and an autograph communion hymn 'Therefore with Angels' (1845); 1809-1845. Except for the second Pearsall work, the contents are copies, mostly in the compiler's hand, with date and place of copying often given. All composers named are included in the index to the present catalogue. Henry Thomas Ellicombe, afterwards Ellacombe (b.1790, d.1885), was from 1817 to 1850 curate and vicar of Bitton, co. Glouc., the parish of Pearsall's family home, Willsbridge House. For Pearsall's relations with Ellacombe, see Sir A. W. Hill's memoir of his son, Henry Nicholson Ellacombe (1919), pp. 26-27, 32-34. 8. ff. 124-126v. R. L. Pearsall: 'Therefore with Angels'; 1845. Autograph except for the heading, which is in Ellacombe's hand. Pasted into the volume on a page left blank for the purpose. With part of a letter from Pearsall to Ellacombe dated 'Wartensee 21 August 1845' referring to Ellacombe's commissioning of the work. For a draft of the same setting see Add. 38541, f. 116.
