GUSTAV HOLST: text for 'The Hymn of Jesus', op. 37 (H.140); [1917]. Autograph translation by the composer from the Apocryphal Acts of St John. In an exercise book with 'G von Holst Greek' and 'Hymn of Jesus at end' written on the cover. Containing: - (a) the Greek text, with transliteration and a literal translation, written in black and red ink and in pencil (ff. 2V-10); - (b) the final text of the translation as set to music (ff. 19v-15 vol. rev.). The complete work was published London: Stainer & Bell, 1919. Add. 57884 is a partly autograph full score; see also Add. 57885, 57886.
