THE Grand Coustumier of Normandy, entitled "Les Loys, les coustumes, et les usaiges du pays et duché de Normendie." This volume contains 124 chapters, instead of 125, which are printed; the last, on Prescription, being omitted. The text differs from that printed by Bourdot de Richebourg, "Nouveau Coutumier-General," 1724, Folio, Vol. IV., and is apparently the more ancient one. At f. 333 is a French translation of the Charter to the Normans, dat. 1313[4]; the Latin printed text being dated 1314[5]. See "Recueil des Ordonnances des Rois de France," 1723, Vol. I. A full account of the MS. is given in the "Histoire du Droit Civil de Rome et du Droit Français," by M. F. Laferrière. Paris, 1848. Vol. III., p. 127. Vellum; with illuminated initial letters and rubrics. The arms of Normandy are emblazoned on the first page, and are also engraved upon the brass clasps which ornament the binding. Belonged in 1830 to Eustache Hyacinthe Langlois, of Pont-de-l'Arche, painter. XVth cent. Duodecimo.
