Origin: Liessies, Northern France.
Provenance:
The Benedictine abbey of St Lambert in Liessies, in the 12th century, perhaps owned until the first half of the 19th century: a 12th-century note on the inside of the upper cover: ‘Liber · Sancti · Lamberti ·’; a 12th-century note on f. 1r: ‘Letiensis’.
Mortiaux-Denoël (‘Le fonds’ (1991), no. 171) attributes this manuscript to the Benedictine abbey of St James in Louvain, but there is no evidence to support this.
Thomas Boone (b. 1790, d. 1873) and William Boone (b. 1795, d. 1870), London booksellers: purchased from them (note on f. [i] recto: 'Purchased of Messrs Boone 9 January 1858') by the British Museum as part of a group of 5 manuscripts (for the sum of £70) on 9 January 1858.
