A collection of compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Xaver Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn and Sigismond Neukomm.
- Scope & Content:
-
ff. 1-13v. Franz Xaver Mozart: "Ich bin der erste Buffo", op. 13. Aria, with symphonies and accompaniments for flutes, oboes, horns, clarinets, drums, and strings, in score, composed in 1808 for a private performance of his father's "Der Schauspieldirektor." Autograph. It was written for the composer's stepfather, G. N. Nissen, on the occasion of Mme. Nissen's birthday. At the end is a translation of the text made by J. A. Stumpf in 1830 for Novello.
f. 13r-13v. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Minuet no. 3 and trio no. 6 of a set of dances for orchestra, K. 176, arranged for piano {harpsichord?}; late 18th century. Autograph. (See Neue Mozart-Ausgabe, Serie IV/13/Abteilung 1/1: Tänze, Band 1, ed. Rudolf Elvers (Kassel: Bärenreiter, 1961), p. 94; Kritischer Bericht, ed. Andrea Lindmayr-Brandl (1996), p. a/98).
f. 14. A composition in D minor (12 bars in length), by Mozart; 2nd half of 18th cent. It consists of four figured basses written below one another, in score; and was presented by the composer's widow to Vincent Novello in 1829. {Acc. to W. Plath, Mozart Jahrbuch 1960/1, p. 101 not Mozart's autograph but Leopold Mozart}
ff. 15r-21v. W.A. Mozart: Recitative and aria, "Giunse al fin il momento", with pianoforte accompaniment, in score, and "Al desio di chi t'avora" (K. 577), composed for a revival of Le Nozze di Figaro, K. 492, in 1789. The copy from which the composer is said to have accompanied his wife, by whom it was presented to Vincent Novello at Salzburg, in 1829, with autograph cadenza on f. 21v.
ff. 21v-29v. W.A. Mozart: Sonata in B flat for piano duet, K. 358/186c; {1774}. (See Neue Mozart-Ausgabe, Serie IX/24/Abteilung 2: Werke für Klavier zu vier Händen, ed. Wolfgang Rehm (Kassel: Bärenreiter, 1955), p. 36; Kritischer Bericht, ed. Wolfgang Rehm und Ernst Fritz Schmid (1957), p. 94).
f . 30. Ludwig van Beethoven: Sketch of a composition for a full orchestra, in score; 18th-19th century. On the top of f. 30v is written "2 tes Stuck" but it evidently has some connection with the preceding piece, from the similarity of some of the phrases.
ff. 33-34. Felix Mendelssohn: Fugue in D minor, for full organ, on three staves, in score; written for Vincent Novello, Berlin, 29 March, 1833. Autograph.
ff. 35-37v. Chevalier Sigismund Neukomm: "Ave Maria", for 2 sopranos and a bass, with symphonies and accompaniments for flute and pianoforte, in score; before 1843.
