THISTLETHWAITE, CO. CUMB. 'Thistlethwaite County of Cumberland belonging to Immanuel Halton gent. Described Anno Domini 1660'; 'Im Halton descripsit Anno Domini 1660'; 1660. 'Scala 80. Perticarum Statutorum' = 5 inches, with scale bar divided into 20 chains [1:3168]. South at top. Immanuel Halton (b.1628, d.1699) (Eden/Bendall HO62) is better known as an astronomer and as the teacher of John Flamsteed. The decoration of the scale bar is copied from Saxton's map of Glamorgan and the border from Saxton's map of Warwickshire and Leicestershire. Areas given in Irish as well as statute acres. Purchased from Roger Mason, August 2001.
