COWTHORPE, W.R., CO. YORK. ‘The Mannor of Coulthorpe with ye Desmesne of Lundhouse belonging to Richard Walmesley Esqre.’, [by William Binkes?]; [circa 1663]. No surveyor named . Scale: 40 statute perches to the inch [1:7920]. North east at top. The map, surmounted by the arms of Richard Walmesley and his wife Mary Fromond, appears to have been for display purposes rather than for practical land management use. It contains very little practical information such as acreages and tenure nor any key to the colours used. There is a pictorial plan of the village with thumbnail views of the church and the manor house. A pair of putti are shown holding measuring chains around the scale bar. Cowthorpe is now in the North Riding, co. Yorks. Purchased from J.L.M. Gulley, Nov. 2002.
Ink and watercolour on vellum. 585 x 470mm.
