ROHDE HAWKINS: topographical drawings by Major Rohde Hawkins (b.1820, d.1884), son of Edward Hawkins, Keeper of Antiquities, British Museum, made on his homeward journey through Asia Minor and Europe after accompanying the fourth archaeological expedition to Lycia of Charles Fellows (d.1860); 7 April-12 Sept. 1844, n.d. Drawings of archaeological interest from the series are in the Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities, British Museum. The notebook of George Scharf, junior, afterwards Sir George Scharf, K.C.B., Keeper of the National Portrait Gallery (d.1895), who was also a draughtsman on the expedition, is Add. 36488 C. Purchased from the British Museum Society, May 1989.

Pencil and (ff. 5, 6, 25, 27, 29) pencil and wash on paper; ff. ii+29. Folios 1-24 bear pencil numbers from a series between '22' and '84'. Various sizes (ff. 12-24 measure 290 x 213mm).
