SIR ROBERT KER PORTER: field book of Sir Robert Ker Porter (b.1777, d.1842) recording topographical and other observations during his journey through Persia from Bagdad; 9 Nov. 1818-7 May 1819. Autograph. This volume is the first of two which relate to Ker Porter's Persian expedition. For the second of these, see Add. 53793 which is part of the collection of his journals and notebooks covering various expeditions, in Add. 53791-53799. For other manuscripts of Ker Porter relating to his travels see Add. 14758, 18281-18282. Belonged to Sir Thomas Phillipps (MS. 14773). Purchased at Sotheby's, Phillipps sale, 26 June 1974, lot 3016.
