DARWIN AND CORNFORD PAPERS. Correspondence and papers of and relating to the Darwin and Cornford families; circa 1864-1960, n.d. Autograph, typewritten and signed, with some printed material and photographs, etc. The collection comprises, as well as personal and family papers, literary manuscripts of Frances Crofts Cornford, née Darwin (b.1886, d.1960), and her husband Francis Macdonald Cornford (b. 1874, d. 1943). Correspondence with members of their circle includes letters from Geoffrey Langdon Keynes, William Rothenstein, Gwen and Jacques Raverat, Eric Gill, Walter de La Mare, Gilbert and Lady Murray, A. E. Housman, Thomas Hardy and Virginia Woolf; there is further general correspondence, some of which discusses other literary figures, in particular Rupert Brooke. Another collection of Frances Cornford papers is at Add. 56331-56347 and is described in J. Stratford, The Arts Council Collection of Modern Literary Manuscripts 1963-1972 (1974), pp. 95-109. Presented by the children of Frances and Professor F. M. Cornford, 1973.
