'MARCHA': by Marco Battagli of Rimini; 15th cent. With an imperial chronicle (1376 to 1451), partly in Italian, by Pietro dei Guarienti of Verona and notes concerning the history of the reign of Wenceslaus (b.1361, d.1419), Robert (b.1275, d.1343) and Sigismund (b.1368, d.1437), kings of the Romans. For another version of Battagli's Marcha see Add. 8361 Chronicon Universale which is identified by Massèra as one of the three remaining apographs of the lost original. For further information see Marcha di Marco Battagli da Rimini in vol. 16, part III of Rerum Italicarum Scriptores, ed. L. A. Muratori, (Citta di Castello: Lapi 1913). Massèra describes Marcha as a 'compilation of compilations' (f. xviii) and he lists the three sources which he believes were used as (ff. xxiv-xxvii) Etymologiae or Origines of the Bishop of Seville, Pomerium ravennatis ecclesie of Riccobaldo da Ferrara and Flores chronicorum seu catalogus pontificum romanorum of Bernard Gui. Owned by the Rev. William H. King in 18th cent.(?) (bookplate, f. i). Purchased from Maggs Bros., 1 April 1975.
Paper; ff. iii+195. Original foliation indicates lacuna between ff. 183-190 (modern f. 184). Sec. fol.: 'usque ad an(n)os'. 218 x 153mm. Humanistic cursive book script by two scribes. 6 line gold initial 'v' with blue, red and green background of poor quality (f. 1) with minor initials and capitula in red. Damaged from f. 178 (possibly caused by corrosive substance). 17th-cent. blind tooled white leather binding titled 'Annales MS' on spine. Sewn on two cords.
