RICHARD JEFFERIES COLLECTION. Literary works, mostly novels and essays, with notebooks, sketchbooks, correspondence and miscellaneous material of, and relating to, Richard Jefferies (b.1848, d.1887), author and naturalist, with a few sketchbooks and papers of his son, Richard Harold Jefferies, and material relating to later publications of Jefferies's works; 1860-1964, n.d. Partly autograph; partly typewritten. Included are many notes relating to Jefferies's manuscripts, often written on envelopes, by a previous owner of the collection, Samuel J. Looker, the latter's correspondence and many of his drafts and transcriptions prepared for the publications on Jefferies's works which he compiled and edited. Included also are similar notes by Col. H. L. Bradfer-Lawrence who purchased this collection of Jefferies's manuscripts from Looker in 1956. For further papers of Jefferies, see Eg. 3254, ff. 1-39.
