SERMONS, ETC., BY DON AMARO (EL LOCO): sermons delivered in Seville during the second half of the 17th cent. by Don José Amaro Sánchez ('El Loco'), an insane popular preacher, calligraphically copied by Francisco Xavier de Santiago Palomares, author of Arte Nueva de Escribio (1776), and member of the Royal Basque Society; 1747 (colophon, f. 124). Contains a pen and ink portrait of Don Amaro by Palomares (f. 2) and copies of other miscellaneous Spanish sermons, ecclesiastical certificates and letters. Not consulted for Luis Estepa (ed.), Sermones Predicables del Loco Don Amaro (Madrid, 1987). Presented by Mrs A. Charles, of Uckfield, co. Suss., 9 May 1975.
Paper; ff. i+137. 270 x 200mm. Script is a humanistic cursive. Penwork initials, some incorporating human heads. Original binding of brown calf with gilt tooling to spine. Marbled endpapers.
