GRANT by Francisculs Maria Feltrius a Robore [Francesco Maria II. della Rovere], Duke of Urbino, to Euphrosyna Turturea Thomasia [? de' Thomasi] of Pesaro, formerly his nurse, and Comes Joannes [a Count Giovanni de' Thomasi was executed for homicide and sedition in Pesaro in 1586, see Dennistoun, Memoirs of the Dukes of Urbino, ed. 1851, iii. p. 150], Dominus Antonius Franciscus Maria, and Guidobaldus, her sons, in recognition of her and their services, particularly those of the second son, of immunity "ab omnibus et quibuscunque muneribus personalibus, patrimonialibus, seu realibus, aut mixtis, ordinariis, uel extraordinariis, tributis, collectis, indictis et superindictis, vectigalibus, portoriis, angariis, peraugariis, et aliis quibuscunque oneribus.....exceptis tamen nunc ex nostris tribus his exportationis silict frumenti, seu tractae ex quoeunque loco nostrae ditionis, huius moliturae fabriceque Pisauri et Senogalliae," the statutes to the contrary (specified) notwithstanding. Dated, Pesaro, 10 March 1582. Signed "Francus Ma." Vellum sheet, 21 in. x 26 in. The salutation and the significant words and the capital letters throughout the text in gold. Illuminated border of architectural pattern on a blue ground (much rubbed): two columns, each bearing a perpendicular band with six medallions of laurelled heads (? the twelve Caesars) separated by scroll patterns, supporting an entablature decorated with arabesques, cornice with classical mouldings, etc. In the centre at the top are the arms of Urbino surmounted by a crown associated with oak sprays (a favourite device of the Dukes of Urbino, see op. cit. i. p. 421); and in the lower margin the arms of the grantee (arg., two chevrons or, in base on a mount a bend of the second, in chief from a label of four points a knot (? or star) or.
