WORKS, in Italian, by members of the Alberti family of Florence, viz.:-
1. Canzoni and sonnets of Antonio degli Alberti [Professor at Bologna, d. 1415]. Published, but from other MSS., by A. Bonucci, Delizie delli Eruditi Bibliofili Italiani, ii., Firenze, 1863. The present MS., which includes the prefatory prose epistle to Joanne Bouafede, contains all the poems given by Bonucci, except sonnet xiii., with that of Sacchetti (ii.), to which it was an answer, and the two additional poems on pp. 66-76; but the first of the latter is added at the end of the volume (f. 50) by a hand of the 18th or 19th cent., apparently from a different MS. from that of Bonucci, but the same lacuna occurs in stanza 3. The poems contain variations from Bonucci's text. The following two are not in his edition:-(a) Canzone beg.. "Tanta serança amor nela mia me[n]te." f. 7 b;-(b) Ballata, beg. "Amor tu sai ben quel chel mio chor uole." f. 20. Among the sonnets are included sonnets by Joanne Bonafede (ff. 21, 22, 23, 23 b, 26) and Francho Sac[c]hetti (f. 24 b), as in Bonucci. Colophon, "Qui finischono chançone et sonetti di m. antonio di m. nicholaio degli alberti di firençe: Laus deo." f. 1.
2. The prose novel of "Lionora di Bardi et Hyppolito Bondelmonti," published anonymously but usually attributed to Leon Battista degli Alberti (circ. 1404-1484), to whom it is here assigned. Several editions of it were published in the 15th cent., and it has been several times re-edited in the 19th cent. Of the two recensions of it which exist (see Bonucci in Opere olgari di Leon Ball. Alberti, Firenze, 1845, iii. p. 284, note 2) the present copy belongs to that which Bonucci regards as a later revision, but it shows several small variations from Bonucci's text. Colophon, "Laus deo: VT VIDI VT CREDIDI." f. 27.
3. Sonnets and ballate of "Francescho daltobiancho degli Alberti (see Mazzuchelli, Gli Scrittori d'Italia, i. p. 303). Included (f. 46) is a sonnet (beg. "Non e chi non chonoscha lo mio errore") addressed to Francesco degli Alberti by "il signore malatesta," perhaps Malatesta de' Malatesti, signore di Pesaro, several of whose sonnets are published by F. Zambrini, Raccolta...........d'Antichi Scrittori, Bologna, 1859; but he died in 1429 (Crescimbeni, Dell' Isoria della Volgar Poesia, Veuezia, 1730, iii. p. 215), whereas Francesco degli Alberti is said to have flourished in 1440 (Crescimbeni, iii. 260), and one of the sonnets in this collection (f.43b)is addressed to Picro, son of Cosimo de' Medici. Colophon, "Qui scripsit seribat, sempor cum domino uiuat, uiuat e[t] in celis semper cum domino felix." f. 42. Paper; ff. 53. Octavo. Late xv. cent.
