MISSAL of Franciscan use. The contents are as follows (artt. 1 and 2 being additions in a late 14th-early 15th cont. hand) :-
1. Calendar (Jan. and Feb. wanting). f. 1. Many saints associated with the Low Countries (Gertrude, Servacius, Boniface, Hubert, Willibrord, Cunibert and Lebuin); but also Wenceslaus, Duke of Bohemia (28 Sept.), and Elzear, Baron of Ansouis in Provence and Count of Ariano in Apulia (27 Sept.). Though clearly a Franciscan calendar, none of the special anniversaries denoting connexion with a Franciscan house are included. MSS.-1901. M
2. Office for Corpus Christi, followed by the sequence " Ave preclara maris stella " and collect, etc., in honour of St. Louis, Bishop of Toulouse. f. 6.
3. " Incipit ordo missalis fratrum minorum secumdum consuetudinem romane ecclesie " : sc. ( ' a) Temporale (the Canon Missæ, ff. 168- 177 b, inserted, late 15th cent.). f. 8;-(b) Proprium Sanctorum. f. 243;-(b) Commune Sanctorum (a leaf wanting at the end of this and beginning of the next division). f. 309;-(d) Miss-,e Votivæ. f. 344;-(e) Missa " in agenda defunctorum," followed by special masses for the dead. f. 362;-(f) Masses of the Trinity, Holy Spirit, Holy Cross, and B. V. Mary. f. 369 b;-(g) "Gloria in excelsis," "Credo" and " Veni sancte spiritus." 375 b;-(h) Musical settings of the " Kyrie," " Gloria " and Ite, missa est." f. 376 b;-(i) Exorcismus salis et aquæ. f. 377 b. Vellum; ff. 378. Early XIV. cent. (except artt. 1, 2, and the Canon Missæ). With twenty-nine finely executed initials (twentyfour containing miniatures) and partial borders, in English style. Headings in red, and initials in red and blue throughtout. On f. 168 (first page of the Canon Missæ) is an illuminated initial T and border containing the arms of the Dukes of Burgudy (probably for decoration only, as the tinctures are not given). Formerly Barrois MS. 328 in the Ashburnham Library (sale-cat. 1901, lot 409). 8 1/4 in. x 5 1/2 in.
