" FORI ARAGONUM " and " Observantiae " : charters and laws of Aragon, etc. The references below are to the Saragossa edition, Fori et Observantiae, 1542.
1. " Incipiunt fori Aragonie ": the compilation by Vitalis de Canellas, Bishop of Huesea, promulgated by James l., King of Aragon, with consent of his assembled nobles, etc., at Huesca in Jan. 1247. Latin. In eight books. Preface by the bishop (for this the edition substitutes a royal decree), beg. " Cum de foris Aragonie." The text exhibits considerable difference from the edition, e.g. at the end of lib i. the last paragraph is omitted, and at the beginning of lib ii. is an entire section " De Judiciis " not in the printed book. Text be-. " Quicumque saeratam ecclesiam " and ends " consimilis religionis et legali layco." f. 2.
2. Fuero by Peter III. at Saragossa, 5 Oct. 1283 (cf. edition, f. 38 b). Latin, with text of the grievances in Spanish. Imperfect at end by loss of two leaves after f. 53, but v. art. 8. Beg. " Nouerint uniuersi quod anno domini." f. 51.
3. Fuero of James II. at Saragossa, 29 Sept. 1300 (cf. edition, f. 41). Latin. Imperfect at beginning. f. 54.
4. " Incipitunt obseruancie " (in a 15th cent. hand " dompni Peregrini de Ancano "). Pelegrino Anzano is mentioned by Geronimo Blancas, Commentarii, p. 463, as holdiug the office of Justice of Aragon 1336-1338, but not as an author. There would seem to be really two collections here, viz. : (a) beg. " Si forte aliqui fuerint infamati de adulterio." f. 59;-(b) " Incipiunt obseruancie siue usancie regni Aragonie," beg. ',Nota quod ubicumque quis ineartatur pro quocumque delicto." f. 66.
5. " Incipiunt noui fori editi per dominum Jacobum reg[em] Aragonum et Murcie comitemque Barchinone in secunda curia quam Cesaragustane Aragonensibus celebrauit": fuero of James II. at Saragossa, 3 Oct. 1301 (cf. edition, f. 44 b). The list of the nobles and others present is omitted in the edition. Beg. " Anno domini millesimo ccc. primo." f. 83.
6. " Incipiunt noui fori editi per dominum regem Jacobum Aragonum Valencie Sardine Corsice comitesque Barchinone in generali curia quam in Alagone Aragonum celebrauit": fuero of James II. at Alagon, 5-9 Sept. 1307 (cf. edition, f. 46). The list of those present is fuller than the edition. A formula in Spanish is included. Bog. " Anno domini mcccvii." f. 85 b.
7. " Incipiunt noui fori editi in curia Aragonensium generali Daroce ": fuero of James II. at Daroca, 20 Nov. "m,cccxl " (sic for 1311), cf. edition, f. 49 b. The list of those present is fuller. Beg. " In nomine domini amen. Congregata curia." f. 90 b.
8. " Priuilegium generale Aragonie " : another copy of art. 2. f. 93. Vellum (except f. 1); ff. 97. XIV. cent. Illuminated initials with figures. Ashburnham-Barrois MS. 125 (sale-cat. 1901, lot 17). 0ld vellum cover. 10 3/4 in. X 7 3/4 in.
