AUTOGRAPH LETTERS and miscellaneous papers; A.-Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector, to his son " the Lord Henry Cromwell," remonstrating with him for deeming Fleetwood an enemy, and referring to Lieut.-Col. Brafeild's business and Lord Broghill's account thereof; 13 Oct. 1657. Hologr. f. 1. B.-Generals George Monck and Robert Blake to ',the Lord General Cromwell," describing the second day's action (3 June) with the Dutch off the Gabbard (in which Admiral Richard Deane was killed, though no reference to it is made in this letter) and the proposed movements of the Fleet; "From on bord ye Resolucion at Sea off of Ostend," 4 June, 1653. Signed. f. 3. C.-Table of the great Paschal Cycle for 1596 years from A.D. 1, with brief chronological notes in the margins, such as dates of the Emperors and Popes, events in English history, etc., including the foundation of Selby Abbey in 1069 and the death of Abbot Germanus in 1160. The latest entry remaining is under 1183. Four quarto vellum leaves more or less imperfect; circ. 1200. Purchased among a collection of Selby charters (Add. Ch. 45798- 45961). f. 5. D.-(1) Will of Jeremy Bentham, of Lincoln's Inn, " Student of the Law," made 24 Aug. 1769, at the age of 21. Holograph. With the note added by him upwards of sixty years later, " 5th April, 1832. Of the persons in this will named no one being now alive their decease will suffice to deprive it of all effect, without need of cancelling." f. 9.
(2) Jeremy Bentham to Dr. Southwood Smith, enclosing a paragraph for insertion in an article by the latter for the Westminster Review; 14 Jan. 1829. The paragraph is headed " On Bodies for dissection," and was incorporated in the article on ',Anatomy" in the January number. f. 11.
