LETTERS addressed to James Harrington, many of them from Oxford, during the reign of James II. and the Revolution, with a few other papers ; 1669-1693. Harrington (d. 1693) was of Christ Church (B.A. 1687) and a barrister. The Oxford letters deal fully with the invasion of the privileges of the University by James II.; the other correspondents give particulars of the trial of the Seven Bishops, the King's attempts to introduce the Roman Catholic religion, and the coming and progress of William of 0range. Among the correspondents are Nicholas Stratford, Bishop of Chester, Francis Atterbury, Arthur Charlett, Master of University College, and Jonatlian Edwards, Principal of Jesus College. Many of the most interesting letters are signed A. M. and G. S. The papers consist chiefly of Harrington's notes on legal and literary matters. Paper; ff. 149. Quarto.
