Title:: CORRESPONDENCE and papers, literary, political and general, of Antonio Panizzi, afterwards Sir Anthony Panizzi, K.C.B., Principal Librarian of the British Museum (d. 1879); 1823-1877. With a copy (Vol. 1. f. 1) of his baptismal certificate, 17 Sept. 1797. Sixteen volumes. The correspondence begins during Panizzi's residence in Liverpool on his first coming to England, and illustrates very fully his long connexion with the British Museum (1831-1866). In 1859 he was Secretary of the fund raised in England for the Neapolitan exiles, which entailed much correspondence. Among his correspondents are Lord Brougham, Francis Jeffrey, Ugo Eoscolo, Thiers, Gladstone, Prosper Mérimée, Grote, Guizot, Prince Henry of Orleans (Due d'Aumale), Lady Holland, and many other persons of note. The collection was largely used for L. Fagan's Life of Sir Anthony Panizzi, K.C.B., 1880. Mérimnée's letters were edited by L. Fagan in 1881, and a selection of the Italian letters in 1880. Paper.
