The MS. was given in 1806 by Richard Stonhewer, one of the executors of William Mason, Gray's literary executor, to Thomas James Mathias, editor of Gray's works; at the sale of Mathias' manuscripts in 1837 it was bought by Samuel Rogers, from whom it descended to his great-niece, Miss Emily Sharpe. A letter to Rogers from H. F. Cary, Assistant-Keeper of Printed Books in the British Museum, dated 20 July [1837], is enclosed (f. ii). Small quarto. Presented by Miss Emily Sharpe.
