ARTICLES of agreement between John Dryden, of the parish of St. Anne, co. Middlesex, esq., and Jacob Tonson, stationer, of London, for the translation by the former of the works of Virgil ; 15 June, 1694. Signed by Tonson; with seal of arms. Witnessed by William Congreve, the dramatist. Tonson covenants to pay 200l., to " provide 100 plates us'd formerly with Oglebys Virgil," and to procure 100 subscribers at 5 guineas each. The translation was published in July, 1697. Vellum sheet, 2 ft. 1/4 in. x 2 ft. 2 3/4 in. Belonged to H. Clinton Baker, of Bayfordbury, Herts, a descendant of J. Tonson.
