HISTORY, in French, of the Protestants in Dieppe, etc. Anonymous, but apparently in part by Guillaume Daval and Jean Daval his son, relations of Madeleine Périgal, née Daval, wife of Gédéon and mother of Jean Périgal (see below). Contents:-
1. " Antiquitez de la Ville de Dieppe," A.D. 788-1555. Begins Charlemagne ayant dompté," and ends " perdirent leurs navires." f 2.
2. Histoire de la reformation de la Ville de Dieppe par la pure doctrine evangelique," etc. Part i., 1557-1658, is practically the same as the Davals' work printed by the Société Rouennaise des Bibliophiles, Hist. de la Réformation it Dieppe, 1878, but the text is somewhat altered. Part ii., 1660-1685, narrates the events preceding the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, 21 Oct. 1685 (a copy of the Revocation is at f. 94b) and those immediately following it. Part ii. (f. 68 b) begins " L'Eglise reformée de Dieppe étant assez bien etablie," and ends " ecoutons le parler lui Même." f. 11.
3. Narrative by Jean Périgal, an ivory-turner of Dieppe, of the dragonnades in Nov. 1685 and his imprisonment and sufferings until 28 Apr. 1688, when he, his parents and ninety others were set free at Dover. The family remained in England, and an extensive pedigree of their desecndants has been privately printed by Frederick Perigal, Some Account of the Perigal Family, 1887. A translation of the greater part of Jean Périgal's narrative is printed in the Huguenot Society's Proceedings, vol. ii. (1888), p. 14. f. 102 b.
4. Appendix, containing (a) List of governors of Dieppe, 1442-1685, and dates of pestilences there, 1558-1670. f. 121 b;-(b) List of pastors of the Protestant church of Dieppe, Hug. Soc., L.c. p. 38. f. 122;-(c) Order for release of the Huguenot prisoners, 24 Feb. 1688, and list of their names. Translation, ibid. p. 39. f. 122.

6. Letters patent of Louis XIV. for establishing a fair at Dieppe; -Sept. 1695. f. 130 b. At the end is the note, " Achevé de copier le 26 Nov. 1723." 7. Further particulars, from official records, of the 94 prisoners (one died on the passage) ordered to be released in 1688. f. 132. Paper; ff. 135. A.D. 1723. On f. 1 is the name of Jaques Périgal, probably the brother of Jean aud perhaps the copyist of the MS. Belonged recently to Frederick Perigal. 12 in. x 8 in.
