CATALOGUE OF THE IRISH MANUSCRIPTS IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM, by Eugene O'Curry; 1849. Autograph, and written for the most part on the rectos of the leaves only. The main body of the work, which was commissioned by the Trustees of the British Museum in June 1849, was completed by the end of the year. It is now wholly superseded by the printed Catalogue of Irish Manuscripts in the British Museum, 3 vols., 1926-1953. Added to the catalogue, which is arranged in the order of the Collections, are:-(a) Descriptions, mainly on inserted leaves and for the most part also by O'Curry, of
nineteen further Irish MSS. acquired by the Museum between 1850 and 1858. Among these, the descriptions of Additional MSS. 18746-18749 (acquired in 1851) were made by O'Curry in 1844 for a former owner, Thomas Coulten, M.D. (cf. f. 105). ff. 78-122, 569-572;-(b) An index of contents, also covering the additions noted in (a); n.d. (watermark 1857). ff. 577-587. Some other miscellaneous additions and corrections have been made passim by O'Curry, J. Eugene O'Cavanagh (ff. 6-7), Sir Frederic Madden (ff. 13 b, 190, 543), William Maunsell Hennessy (f. 184b), Robin Flower (ff. 356b, 515 b) and others. Paper; ff. 587. Folio. A.D. 1849, with later additions. Incorporated from the Departmental Reference Library.
