COLLECTION OF SERMONS, in Latin, described in a 14th-cent. hand (f. 138b) as 'Sermones festiui qui incipiunt gloria hec e[st] omnibus sanctis', and on the binding (now f. i) as 'S[ancti] Ant[onii] de Pad[ua] sermones' but not included among his printed works. Originally probably two collections, viz. ff. i-87, and 91-135, which were bound together not later than the 15th cent. Both are mainly sermons for festivals and saints' days, but are not arranged in order of the ecclesiastical year. As follows:-
(1) Thirty-six sermons for various festivals and saints' days. Imperfect through loss of twenty-four leaves following f. So, as indicated by an early (15th cent.?) foliation, and the table of contents on f. 87 which discloses texts of nine sermons now wholly or partly missing. Three sermons on St Francis (ff. 71b-74, 78b-80b), the first bearing the rubric 'In sancti patris nostri francisci' suggest that this portion of the volume at least is a Franciscan compilation. Pirri, Sicilia Sacra, ii, p. 871, and Wadding, Annales, 3rd ed., xiv, p. 129), is somewhat obscure in meaning, but appears to indicate that the volume had been found by [Fr. Jacopo Falcei?] in the Church of St Francis there, 6 Mar 147, and that it had been stolen from Johannes di Nola in the 3 said church on the first Sunday of Advent of that year during the solemn procession on the news of the capture of Barcelona [which surrendered to Juan II of Aragon 17 Oct. 1472]. Presented by Robert Reynolds Steele, D. Litt. The following, Add. MSS. 43683-43687, transferred from the Department of Printed Books, come from the library of Mathew Dorey, of Dublin, afterwards in the possession of Edward Cecil Guinness, Ist Earl of Iveagh (d. 1927), at Ken Wood House, co.
