PEN WITH WHICH THE RATIFICATION OF THE RECESS OF THE IMPERIAL GERMAN DIET ('Reichsdeputationshauptschluss') was signed at Ratisbon, at the order of the Emperor Francis II, by Karl Alexander, Prince of Thurn and Taxis, Principalcommissar of the Diet, 27 April 1803. An accompanying memorandum (f. 2) by Alexander Horn, of Ratisbon, who was present at the occasion and cut the pen, describes it as 'the Instrument that pulled the Germanic Constitution to the Ground and thereby opened the Way for all the Disasters that afterwards befell the Continent'. Paper; ff. 2 and a quill pen. Oblong quarto. A.D. 1803. Preceded by a descriptive note (f. 1) in the hand of the Rev. Josiah Forshall, of the Department of Manuscripts. Presented in 1811 by Alexander Horn, Esq., and not previously numbered.
