DIARY OF A VISIT TO INDIA by Mrs Louisa Edwards; 15 Aug. 1883-31 March 1884. The writer was a daughter of J. E. N. Molesworth, D.D., Vicar of Rochdale, and widow of John Edwards, Perpetual Curate of Todmorden. At the time of her visit, her sons, Lionel Edwards and Guilford Lindsey Edwards, were engineers engaged on railway construction at and near Habrah and Dum Dum in Bengal, and at Gauri Bazar, Gorakhpur, respectively. Her brother, Guilford Lindsey Molesworth (K.C.I.E. 1888), was Consulting Engineer to the Government of India for State Railways. The
diaries are illustrated with water-colour and other sketches, maps, plans, and photographs. Vol. I is prefaced by a calendar of the whole tour (ff. 2-6). Paper. Five vols. Quarto. Further volumes for the periods 15 Sept.- 24 Oct. 1883 (Colombo-Dum Dum-Habrah) and 31 March-22 April 1884 (Colombo-Marseilles) are missing from the series (of which the surviving volumes have covers numbered 1, 3-6), see the donor's letter of explanation in vol. 1, f. i.
