'VEDUTA DEL GRAN PORTO DI MALTA'. A panoramic view, in watercolour, of Valletta, and the surrounding country, with a key in Italian. Ships of the British fleet are depicted in the harbour, and the Union flag (of the pattern in use before 1801) is shown flying over the principal forts, while the Tricolor appears lowered, presumably in consequence of the capitulation of the French garrison on 5 Sept. 1800. Added in the upper margin are two keys in English entitled 'Buildings acknowledged to belong to the Ordnance' and 'Buildings in the Possession of the Ordnance but not Ceded Officially', with their distances from the Arsenal. The view resembles 'A Perspective View of the Town and Fortifications of Malta', engraved by T. Bowles, London, 1750 (British Museum, Map Room, K. 84. 102. d). Paper; 727 mm. x 499 mm. A. D. 1800. Presented by Dr R. E. W. Flower, F.B.A.
