VERSE ANTHEMS BY MAURICE GREENE (1695-1755), with figured bass for organ, viz.:-(1) 'Acquaint thy self with God', ff. 2-6;-(2) 'Hear my pray'r 0 God', ff. 6b-10b;-(3) '0 God thou art my God', ff. 11-18;-(4) 'My soul truly waiteth', ff. 18 b-24 b;-(5) '0 Lord give ear unto my pray'r', ff. 25-33 b;-(6) '0 Give thanks unto the Lord', ff. 33 b-44. Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5 were published in Greene's Forty Select Anthems, 1743, and nos. 2 and 6 in Nine Anthems (the supplementary volume to Lonsdale's reprint of the Forty Select Anthems), 1825(?). There are a number of minor variations between the printed editions and the present MS., which appears to be in the hand of
John Barker (cf. his signature, 1725, f. 1b), who also transcribed, circ. 1735, Add. MS. 31467, which has a similar binding. Paper; ff. i + 44. Folio. Circ. 1725 (f. 1b). Original binding of brown calf, blind-tooled. Presented by Thomas Adams, Esq.
