SAMUEL BUTLER PAPERS: correspondence and other papers of, or relating to, Samuel Butler (d. 1902), author of Erewhon, etc.; 1841-1920. For other Butler MSS. see Add. MSS. 36711-36713 (presented by R. In the final distribution of Butler's papers the present collection was assigned to the British Museum by Sir Geoffrey Keynes and Brian Hill, literary

executors in lineal succession to Streatfeild, Jones and A. T. Bartholomew (see The Times Literary Supplement, 23 Nov. 1935, p. 764, and Brit. Mus. Quart.' X, 1935-1936, pp. 111, 112). In each volume is the bookplate of A. T. Bartholomew, for whom many of the MSS. were originally bound. Twenty-eight volumes. Paper. Folio and quarto. Presented as above stated.
