CORRESPONDENCE and papers of Sir Henry Ellis, K.H., Principal Librarian of the British Museum (d. 1869), on the subject of the Domesday survey. The collection includes, besides some printed tracts, (a) copies, in Ellis's hand, of "Correspondence relating to the Domesday survey and the first proposals for its publication: from the originals in the library of the Society of Antiquaries"; 1757-1783. f. 32; and (b) Ellis's original correspondence with J. Caley and others while engaged upon his 'General Introduction and Indices' to the Record Commission edition of Domesday Book, 1809-1816, and some later letters discussing various points and terms in the survey, 1832-1850. f. 84.
