LIBER REGALIS: the order of coronation of the Kings of England, as used from the 14th cent. onwards, in Latin. The version with long rubrics, agreeing closely throughout with the MS, preserved at Westminster Abbey, which was edited by Earl Beauchamp for the Roxburghe Club, Liber Regalis, 1870. For other editions see J. Wickham Legg, Hissale ad usum Eccl. Westmonast., H. Bradshaw Soc., 1891-97, ii, cols. 673-735, from the Missal of Abbot Nicholas Lytlington (1362-1386), collated with the present MS. and two others; L. G. Wickham Legg, English Coronation Records, 1901, p. 81 (parts 1-3 only, with translation). Contents: 1. "Hic est ordo secundum quem Rem debet coronari, pariter et inungi": coronation of King alone. f. 1; 2. Coronation of King and Queen, with "Missa pro Rege." Beg. "Uerum si regina eodem die inungenda fuerit et coronanda cum rege." f. 19 ; 3. Coronation of Queen alone. Beg. "Die quo regina sola coronanda est." f. 27 b; 4. "De exequiis regalibus eum ipsos ex hoc seculo migrare contigerit": a long rubric, giving directions for laying-out a royal corpse. f. 3 2. Vellum; ff. vi + 32. 91/2 in. x 61/4 in. Early xv cent. Gatherings of 8 leaves, with catchwords. Sec. fol. "-ane dilatator." Illuminated initial, with border-prolongation, English work, on f. 1; flourished initials in blue and red throughout. A few marginal corrections, in a contemporary hand, of blunders in the text. Belonged to Ellis and White, the booksellers (cutting from catalogue, f. v); afterwards to Sir Thomas Brooke, Bart. [1899], F.S.A., of Armitage Bridge, Huddersfield (see the Catalogue of his library, 1891, i, p. 308), who bequeathed it in 1908 to the Rev. E. S. Dewick. Bookplate of arms of Thomas Brooke, F.S.A. Bound in brown calf, the covers stamped in gold with the arms of Harville charged with those of Jouvenel des Ursins [Claude de Harville married, in 1577, Catherine, dau. of Christophe Jouvenel des Ursins, Marquis de Trainel, and d. 1636].
