COLLECTION of pieces for the lute by Robert Kindersley, John Dowland, Anthony Holborne, Daniel Bachelor, Robert Johnson, and above all John Sturt, who is probably the compiler of the collection. They consist chiefly of Allemandes, Courantes, Pavans, Galliards, and Masque-tunes, and include the following: (a) "The Lord Hayes Corant." f. 2 b; (b) "The Lord Souches Maske." f. 8 ; (c) "Mall Simmes." f. 9 b ; (d) "John, com kisse mee now." f. 11 b; (e) "Mr. Holborns Last Will and Testament." f. 13 b; (f) "Tom of Bedlam" (two versions). ff. 14, 29; (g) "Lacrime pauin" (sc. pavan) by John Dowland. f. 22 b; (h) "The Battle." f. 23 b; (i) "Graysin (sc. Gray's Inn) maske." f. 30; (k) The first two tunes in "The Lordes Maske" [l612-13]. f. 30 b; and other tunes, some of which are also in Egerton MS. 2046, which was transcribed about 1616. Reversing the volume, there are the organ parts of a few services by Tallis, Byrd, Rogers, Child, and Gibbons. Paper; ff. i + 56. Circ. A.D. 1613-1616. Large folio. The old embossed calf binding, of the second half of the l7th century, had in the centre the initials M.L. (probably for Matthew Lock), see inside cover of present binding.
