ACCOMPTS of the executors of the will of Philip Thomas Howard, Cardinal (d. 1694); 1694-1697. Ital. The executors were the Cardinals [Paluzzo] Altieri, [Francesco] Nerli, [Galeazzo] Mareschotti, and [Fabricio] Spada. The will is summarized by C. F. Raymund Palmer, Life of Philip Thomas Howard, O.P., 1867, pp. 209-211. The chief contents are: (a) Summary of the will with its two codicils, and list of the effects. f. 1 ; (b) General accompt. f. 4; (c) Text of the will, dated at Rome, 11 Mar. 1694. The codicil of 9 June precedes, that of 10 June follows the will. The two codicils are given as one in Palmer, p. 211. f. 11 ; (d) Inventory and valuation of furniture, pictures, plate, and carriages; 28 June, 1694. Among the pictures are several portraits of James II and Queen Mary (nos. 61, 74, 108, 133, 165, 166, 211) and "il figlio del Re Giacomo" (no. 180), one of Henry [Howard], 6th Duke of Norfolk, and two of unnamed Duchesses of Norfolk (nos. 45, 217), one of Sir Thomas More (no. 214), and a considerable number of religious subjects. f. 15; (e) Legal charges. f. 38; (f) Papers relating to the payment of moneys to the English province of the Dominican Order, residuary legatee ; 1694 -97. ff. 39, 42-50, 53 (g) Payments to the cardinal's household. f. 51;(h) Funeral expenses. f. 54 ; (i) Accompt of the sale of the articles inventoried in (d). f. 60; (k) Payments for masses. f. 64 ; (l) Accompts of the bank 'di Santo Spirito,' Rome, with the Dominican Order, 1695-6. f. 66.
