EXTRACTS (with slight verbal changes) from pt. ii of the dialog called "Muretus" or "De ratione scribendae Historiae" in the Prolusiones Academicae (1st ed. 1716), Famianus Strada, S. J., historian and rhetorcician, illustrating, by the story of Arnalda at the capture of Nicosia, the historical, oratorical, and poetical methods of treating a theme. At the end (f. 13) follows the note: "Huius Virginis Cypriae laudationem triplici expressam stylo atque ore bilingui dictam, ut ait author in quadam praefatatione sua sub persona Bencii, quem ut Dialogus fert, cum Mureto disserentem induxit de Historia, pater Famianus habuit, atque ipse est author." Bound with it are printed copy of the same with the title "Arnalda sive Captiva Victrix," ed. by C. Delaval Cobham, 1910, and a few pages on the same subject from La Gallerie des Femmes Fortes, entitled "La Captive Victorieuse," by Pierre Le Moyne, S. J. Paper; ff. i + 21. Octavo. Early XVII cent.
