Title:

TRANSCRIPT of a catalogue of Cotton Charters, copied in Apr. 1913 by the Rev. H. E. Salter. The original MS. (Bodl. 15695 = MS. Smith 90; see Madan, Cat. of Western Manuscripts in the Bodleian Library, Oxford, iii, p. 471) was written circ. 1680-1700, immediately preceding Wanley's catalogue (Harley MS. 7647; another copy in the reference library of the Dept. of MSS.). The arrangement is under the presses distinguished by the busts of the twelve Caesars, as in Wanley, but the descriptions are fuller and the contents of the presses (e.g. Julius, Tiberius) in many cases larger. Entries under identical numbers do not always agree in the two descriptions (e.g. Julius 8-13); other charters described here are entered as missing in Wanley (e.g. Augustus A [or I] 40).
