LETTERS (42) of Lieut.-Gen. Sir James Outram, 1st Bart., to the Rev. [George Percy] Badger, D.C.L., and one (f. 96) on Badger's behalf to Sir C. Wood, Secretary of State for India; with eight letters (ff. 62, 81-87, 90, 92, 105, 108) to Badger from Lady Outram and one letter (f. 110) from Sir F. B. He returned to England in 1861, and in October accompanied Outram on a visit to Egypt. The MSS. were apparently used by Maj.-Gen. Sir F. J. Goldsmid in his James Outram, a biography, 1880, and Badger's "Notes on Outram," presumably in MS., are quoted by Capt. L. J. Trotter in The Bayard of India, 1903. On f. 103 there is a pencil note, presumably in Badger's hand. On f. 36 there is a letter (6 June, 1857) from Sir E. Lugard, and Outram's letters enclose copies etc., of correspondence with Earl Canning, Governor-General of India, Lord Elphinstone, Governor of Madras and Bombay, and others. One letter of Outram, dated Cawnpore, 17 Sept. 1857 (f. 46), refers to the relief of Lucknow. Paper; ff. 111. Quarto. XIX cent. The old binding of black morocco was stamped with the words "In Memoriam" and "yours affectionately, J. Outram."
