MISCELLANEOUS treatises, viz.: 1. The "Academ Roial" of Edmund Bolton. Holograph. Other versions of this work are in Harley MSS. 6103 and 6143. A full account of this MS., which seems to be the latest, and to be, the actual copy prepared for King Charles I (but presented after 1630, if at all, see addition on f. 2b) is given by Joseph Hunter in Archaeologia, xxxii (1847), pp. 132-149 (see especially p. 134, footnote b). The proposed device and arms of the academy are painted in the margins of ff. 6, 6b, and the list of suggested members is at f. 7b. f. Ib.
2. Arms, in trick, of twelve peers created 8-14 James I. f. 10 (inserted leaf).
3. Part of Robert Cooke's Baronage (see Harley MS. 214, etc.) from Edgar Atheling to Hugh Courtney. The blazon only of the arms is written (on blank escutcheons), and this is sometimes omitted. Followed by a modern index by George Burrell, of Thetford (see note, f. iiib). f. 11.
4. Genealogical tables, with arms in trick, beginning with the Kings of England from Edward III to Charles I. The pedigrees of English peers, which follow, agree in the main with Harley MS. 1529 and Stowe MS. 599, the latter of which also belonged to Sylvanus Morgan ; all these MSS. appear to be based on a work (compiled about 1587 ?) entitled "Baronagium Angliae," of which several copies exist (Harley MSS. 806, 1160, etc.). The present compilation seems to have been made at various dates between the years 1591 (see f. 67b) and 1605, and includes nearly all peers of the degree of earl or higher at that period. The names of the families are given in the Index. Additions to this portion are chiefly in two hands, one of about 1635 (e.g. f. 64b), the other (e.g. f. 69b, entry dated 1644) that of Sylvanus Morgan . On ff. 94-114b are continuations and additional pedigrees for new creations to about 1639, in the hand, except for a few additions, of Richard Mundy, by whom Harley MSS. 1529-1577 were chiefly compiled. f. 63b. Paper; ff. iii + 114. Quarto. XVII cent. Belonged to Sylvanus Morgan (d. 1693), whose signature and motto are on f. i and initials are on the covers; afterwards to George Ashby, Rector of Barrow, co. Suff. ; to George Bird Burrell, of Thetford (two of whose bookplates are on f. i), see his note on f. 9 ; and to Edmund Henry Barker, who gave it in 1828 (see his note on f. iii) to the Rev. Joseph Hunter, F.S.A., whose book-plate of arms is on f. iii (sale-cat., Sotheby's, 1861, lot 290). On f. 8b is pasted a cutting from Sir Walter History of the World, pt. i, bk. ii, ch. 7, 3. Transferred from the Patent Office Library.
