PAPERS relating to the Dutch West India Company, circ. 1699-1770, being the manuscript part of a collection acquired by the Department of Printed Books in Jan. 1850. The printed portions are bound in three volumes (press-mark 1324. k. 1-3), and include many memorials, reports and extracts from proceedings of the States-General, States of Holland, Chambers of Amsterdam, Zeeland, etc. The manuscript papers are of a similar character, with the additions of notes, probably made by officials of the company. An original letter signed by seven managers of the Company to the Chamber of the Maas, 19 Oct. 1765, is at f. 176. Dutch. except f. 4, an extract, from the Journals of the English House of Commons, of a representation of the Board of Trade to the Lords Justices, 14 Feb., 11 Will. III [1699]. At the beginning (f. 1) is a list of the papers (18th cent.) " in de Portfeuille van Dott. Pensionaris Bosschaert." It differs in contents and arrangement from their present state. The subjects include :-
