Title:

"LIBER Vesperarum ad usum R. P. Abbatis N. Belli Pratensis," i.e. the Cistercian abbey of Beaupré, in Moncel, arrondissement Lunéville, Meurthe, France. The text follows the printed Antiphonale Cisterciense, and is perhaps excerpted from the Paris edition of 1737. Paper; ff. 53. Folio. Late XVIII cent. On f. 52 is the note 1809 Agonie," and on f. 53 " De M. Malin, Ex abbé de Beaupré mort en May 10 1809. Coute 48^s. 23 Juin, 1809." Malin is mentioned as the existing abbot in Gallia Christiana, xiii, 1785, p. 1372. On the title page (f. 1) are two shields of arms surmounted by a coronet between a mitre and crozier'. viz. :-- (1) az., three narcissi (?)arg. ; (2) az., in the dexter flank a tower ppr., "senestré " in chief by an arrow in bend sinister, presumably those of the Monastery and abbot. Contemporary brown calf binding.
