MUSIC-BOOK begun by John Pearsall of Willsbridge (near Bristol) in 1726, consisting chiefly of minuets and other short pieces for the harpsichord, including two by Buononcini (ff. 2 b, 10 b) and one by " N. R." (f. 9 b), and the melodies of popular dances, marches, songs, etc., of the 18th century. Among the latter tunes are " Ye little, little loves," [by George Vanbrughe], headed " a song set by Mr. Weldon " (f. 10), "By a cool fountain's flowry side " (f. 11 b), " Cupid's arrow " (f. 15), " Astly's hornpipe (f. 15 b), "The lass of Richmond Hill" (f. 16), " A soldier is the lad for inc" (f. 22), [T. Linley's] "When war's alarms" (f. 22 b), [S. Arnold's] " If 'tis a joy to wound " (f. 23), " S[t ?]anley's Gavot (f. 23 b), " Money Musk " (ff. 24, 26), " Ballinamona " (f. 24 b), "Bath medley " and "The Windsor chase " (f. 25). Paper ; ff. i + 30. xviii cent. Oblong octavo. On ff. i - 1b are the signatures of the above John Pearsall, his daughter Mary, and his grandson Richard Pearsall (1809), and notes in the hand of the latter's granddaughter Philippa, widow of John Swinnerton Hughes.
