" ALLGEMEINES CHORAL-BUCH, geordnet nach der Liederfolge des neuen Hildburghäusischen Gesangbuchs, vierstimmig ausgesetzt mit Vor- und Zwischenspielen . . . von J[ohann] C[aspar] Rüttinger, Hofmusikus und Organist an der Waisenkirche zu Hildburghaussen " : a collection of 274 chorales for 4 voices, in compressed score, with figured bass and preludes and interludes for organ. The majority are original compositions, but 85 are by various composers, mainly of the 16th to 18th centt., some of whom are wrongly indicated. The chorales were probably intended as the organ accompaniment to the hymns of the Neues Hildburghäusisches Gesangbuch of Johann Christian Wagner, first published 1807, an index to the opening words of which is given (ff. 190-200). Some of the melodies were published in 1808 with the title Choral-Melodien über hundert und neun Lieder des iteuen Hildburghäusischen Gesangbuchs, and thence included in the collections of Karl Gottlieb Umbreit (1811) and others. The chorales are preceded (ff. 2-33 b) by a preface and an introduction on the organ-accompaniment of hymns, etc. Germ. Probably autogr. Paper; ff. iii + 201. Oblong folio. Early xix cent. Bookplates of W. H. Cummings (sale-cat., lot 1480), and Ralph Griffin. Presented by R. Griffin, Esq., F.S.A.
