MAGICAL work, in Italian and Latin, written on blackened paper in white and red ink, with a title-page (f. 3) in Italian, " Prezzioso esperimento arcano di Pietro d'Abbano 1470," and one (f. 7) in Latin, " Arcanum experimentum pretiosum ex autore Petrus (sic) de Abbano Philosophi (sic) 1470." It is not the Heptameron or the Geomantia attributed (but the former probably incorrectly; see A. E. Waite, The Book of Black Magic, p. 67, Mazzuchelli, Scrittori d'Italia, i, p. 10) to Petrus de Abano, nor does any tract of similar title appear among that author's works given by Mazzuchelli, op. cit. (unless it be the Liber experimentorum mirabilium de Annulis secundum 28 mansiones Lunae), and it is probably to be regarded as a modern forgery passed off under his name. Descriptions and seals of various spirits, designs of magic circles, and many incantations and magical formulae are given, and there are several crude coloured drawings. At beginning and end are flyleaves of ordinary, not blackened., paper, containing, on one side, magic circles, on the other tables of the divine names, etc., some of them in badly written Hebrew characters. Paper; ff. 70. Octavo. Early XIX cent. Presented by W. Barclay Squire, Esq.
