(1) Whole service in C by Nathaniel Giles. Published in John Barnard, The First Book of Selected Church Musick, 1641, as 'Dr. Gyles his first Service of 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. and 6. Parts to the Organs'. See 30086, ff. 102b-104. For other MSS., see R. Daniel and P. Copy by Bishop in 30087, ff. 130b-133b. See Daniel and Le Huray, op. cit., p. 108, and Early English Church Music, xxiii, 1979, pp. 7-15. Followed (f. 28) by two psalm chants here attributed to Dr William Child and Benjamin Lamb. ff. 24-28;- (3) 'I will magnify thee, O Lord'. Verse anthem by Nathaniel Giles (f. 31b). See Daniel and Le Huray, op. cit., p. 108, and Early English Church Music, xxiii, pp. 58-69. Wrongly attributed to John Lugg on f. 29. ff. 29-31b;- (4) 'Behold how good and joyful'. Verse anthem by John Lugg. See Daniel and Le Huray, op. cit., p. 121. ff. 32-36. Owned by Joseph Warren (annotation, f. 23b) and sold with his library (Puttick and Simpson, 7 July 1881, lot 378). Subsequently owned by John Skelton Bumpus (signature,
f. 1). See Add. MS. 50202, ff. 13-20 passim. Pencil notes by John Bishop on ff. 8-24 passim. Printed press cuttings relating to Giles on ff. 2, 2b, 19th cent.
